Traveling in any capacity can be a logistical nightmare if you do not have all of your ducks in a row. No matter where you are traveling or why you are traveling, you are sure to have a more relaxing trip if you have already mentally and physically taken care of the details involved in that trip. There is always going to be a few technical details to any trip that you will want to have locked down and ready to go. One of these aspects is your overnight bag. Whether you are flying halfway across the world and want to have all of your immediate necessities in a small carry on bag just in case the airline loses your big bag or you are driving a few hours down the road to a resort for the night, it is always a good idea to know what you will be taking with you in general on any given trip. Here are the top five items you should put in your overnight bag.

Toiletry Bag

This might be a little bit of bag inception, but it is so worth it. You always want to make sure that some of the first items in your big overnight bag are items like a toothbrush, razor, shaving cream, tooth paste, makeup and moisturizer. The specific items that go into this toiletry bag may change depending on how long you will need that overnight bag for and what you intend to do with it, but you will probably always have a core group of items inside of it. You can even purchase some of those items to keep in your overnight bag perpetually, or at least until they expire! Even if your overnight stay does not lead to the need for showering or moisturizing, but you will never regret having those items with you just in case.

Rain Gear

Take a look at the forecast before you take off on your journey to know what kind of clothes to pack. However, the weather is not always perfectly predictable. Even if the forecast appears bone dry you should shove at least a rain jacket into your bag. That way, if your plans shift or the weather shifts, you can make sure you keep your clothes dry!

Extra Socks

It sounds silly and unnecessary, but having an extra pair of socks can be a life saver. Soldiers swear by this life hack, and while your two day trip to the beach may not be as intense or crucially important as a soldier's mission, you should still have everything you need in your bag. If your socks get wet, or you take them off somewhere and lose them or even if your feet get a little uncomfortably sweaty, you will thank past you so much for throwing some extra socks into that bag.

Electronic Necessities

This one might seem obvious, but when you are trying to get ready for a trip or vacation and are running around finalizing details, you might forget to throw a charger for your phone, computer and whatever other necessities you bring with you into that overnight bag. You will absolutely kick yourself if your phone dies while you are away from home. It always seems like it happens at the worst possible time too, like when you really need directions or are about to take an important phone call. Help yourself out and consider purchasing extra chargers that just stay in your bag!

Energy-Filled Snacks

Having some extra small bites with you can really help. Low blood sugar never did anybody any good. Consider keeping your bag stocked with a small bag of nuts, some chips or popcorn or even a premed sandwich so you do not catch yourself off guard.

While the contents of your overnight bag may vary in general, you should always consider bringing one or all of the items on this list. Getting yourself prepared for anything is never a bad thing and it is certainly something you will not regret. Follow these tips to make sure you have everything you need!
