Victorian households that hold concession cards will soon get some relief on their power bills, with the State Government launching another round of its Power Saving Bonus program.
Starting 25 August, around 900,000 homes across Victoria will be eligible for a $100 discount on their residential electricity bills. The program is specifically for those who hold one of several eligible concession cards—such as a health care card, pension concession, veterans affairs pensioner concession, or veterans affairs gold card. 9
To receive the bonus, concession card holders must apply through the Victorian Energy Compare (VEC) website or in person at a local Neighbourhood House. A recent electricity bill for their home will be required to complete the application process.
Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio emphasised the importance of supporting vulnerable Victorians with energy cost relief. “This will take $100 off that bill and keep that $100 in your pocket and not out the door to an energy company,” she said.
The Power Saving Bonus has been part of Victoria’s broader effort to help households manage rising living costs. It runs in addition to the Commonwealth’s $150 Energy Bill Relief Fund, which all Victorian households are eligible for.
For most applicants, the payment is expected to reach their accounts within 10 business days of applying. However, those who require assistance—such as through phone support or via Neighbourhood Houses—may experience a delay.
The program isn’t new: since its launch in 2018, the Power Saving Bonus has helped millions of Victorians. Over four rounds of the bonus so far, more than 4.5 million applications have been processed, with more than $1 billion in energy bill relief delivered.
In short, from 25 August, if you have a valid concession card and meet the eligibility criteria, you’ll be able to apply for this one-time $100 bonus to reduce your energy costs. It’s one of several measures Victoria is putting in place to assist households facing cost-of-living pressures.
