SAA will boost its flights to Perth—a popular destination due to its large South African-born population—with the first additional flight starting in December 2024 and a second in January 2025.
This expansion comes after Qantas’ recent decision to make Perth its second major hub in Australia, playing a pivotal role in its Project Sunrise initiative.
Perth Airport recently announced significant upgrades, including improved connections between Terminals 1 & 2, which handle both international and domestic flights, and Terminals 3 & 4, the latter being Qantas' hub.
For those planning longer stays or business trips, Corporate Keys offers a wide range of Perth furnished apartments. These provide convenient, fully equipped living spaces ideal for extended stays, with many located near the city centre and airport.
Expanded Flights to African Destinations
Starting in November, SAA will increase flights to several African cities. Harare and Lusaka will each see 12 weekly flights, up from 10 and seven flights, respectively. Services to Lagos and Accra will rise to four weekly flights from the current three. In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), SAA will expand its Kinshasa flights to five times a week.
Domestic Growth
Within South Africa, SAA will increase its flights to Gqeberha to three times a day.
SAA’s Interim CEO, Professor John Lamola, noted that after the airline's rapid route expansion since 2021, the focus now is on consolidating its position and enhancing Africa's connectivity.
“South Africa has seen a strong travel recovery, with most visitors from other parts of Africa," said Lamola. "Our growth strategy targets routes based on demand and feasibility, aligning with our role as a national carrier to boost South Africa's economy by strengthening tourism and trade links across the continent."
