New Board and Strategic Reboot for Accommodation Australia

Accommodation Australia body has elected a streamlined 11-member board, now representing all states and territories, after elections held in Sydney this week.

Under CEO James Goodwin and re‑elected Chair David Mansfield, the newly configured board welcomes SA and TAS treasurer Andrew Bullock and Shelley Verdouw, respectively. Goodwin praised the blend of deep industry insight and governance experience, noting, “We look forward to … delivering against our new strategic plan to get the best possible outcomes for our members and the broader tourism sector”

Key board priorities focus on evidence‑based policy, member engagement, and robust governance—underpinning the organisation’s vision for the next three years. Mansfield commented that this marks the culmination of the transition and amalgamation phase, with the board “straight down to business” at its first meeting, where a new strategic plan was approved

Tributes were paid to outgoing members—including long-serving Treasurer Bruce Copland—at a Sydney dinner, where Copland received a Certificate of Appreciation for his decades of service

The full board lineup includes:

  • NSW: Emma Hynes (IHG Hotels), Jason Nuell (Marriott)
  • VIC: David Mansfield (The Ascott Limited), Adrian Williams (Accor)
  • QLD: Barry Robinson (Travel+Leisure Co), Geoff York (Crystalbrook)
  • WA: Andrew Cairns (Crown Hotels)
  • SA: Andrew Bullock (1834 Hotels)
  • TAS: Shelley Verdouw (RACV Hobart)
  • NT: Paul Hutton (Hilton)
  • ACT: Joanna Carruthers (EVT)

Why This Matters

Representation from every jurisdiction ensures the board hears local voices and regional concerns—vital for shaping national policy and advocacy that resonates across Australia. The revamped governance structure also signals a renewed commitment to organisational efficiency and proactive leadership.
