Melbourne Ranked Among The Most Searched Travel Destinations Worldwide For 2024.

Just one Australian city has been named in the world’s most searched destinations - and it’s probably not the one you’d expect.

Melburnians should anticipate an influx of tourists in 2024, while Sydney has been overlooked as a top global destination for the new year.

According to Airbnb data, Melbourne is the only Australian city to make the global top 24 travel list for 2024.

Planning a trip to Japan? You're not alone. Searches for Japan have more than tripled compared to this time last year.

France is on the top of travelers' minds, with searches for homes in Paris during the Olympics increasing more than sevenfold compared to last year. Brazil is also a popular choice, with searches for homes in Rio de Janeiro during Carnival weekend up by 136%.

Other notable destinations include the Canary Islands, several Italian cities, Mexico City, and Dallas, Texas.

For Australians, Japan dominates the travel wish list, with Japanese cities comprising eight of the top 10 destinations. The only exceptions are Taiwan and Hong Kong, while Tokyo suburbs like Taito, Shibuya, and Shinjuku are especially popular.

Despite Melbourne's global appeal, it's not the top destination for Australians. That honor goes to Rockhampton in Queensland, followed by Richmond and East Melbourne.

Sydney suburbs only appear at rank five or lower in the top 10 list, with travelers seemingly preferring to avoid the city center. Instead, they opt for areas like Sydney Olympic Park, Moore Park, or Parramatta, where major events are frequently held.
