5-star penthouse in Melbourne

It’s rare to enter a hotel room and feel that it exceeds the stunning photos—unless you find yourself in a suite with a staircase and a Dyson hairdryer.

This month, News.com.au explored a luxury penthouse that starts at $5,000 a night, a favorite among Melbourne icons like Bec and Chris Judd, as well as international celebrities and some of Australia’s wealthiest individuals.

Stephan Leroy, general manager of Pullman Melbourne on the Park, chose not to disclose the names of the guests to respect their privacy.

The William Clarke Sky Villa is hailed as "the jewel in the crown" of the hotel’s $40 million renovation. This stunning two-level penthouse took approximately 12 months to complete and was unveiled in June 2022.

A year later, in June 2023, the five-star hotel again elevated its luxury offerings with the introduction of the new ONE9 package. Priced at $20,000 a night, this package allows you to bring along 35 friends, bringing the cost down to about $570 per person if you split it among the group.

The ONE9 package includes exclusive access to the entire 19th floor, which features 18 rooms—14 deluxe executive rooms, three suites, and the luxurious William Clarke Sky Villa.

Guests will also enjoy an all-day beverage package, continental breakfast, lunch, evening canapés, and valet parking for up to 18 cars.

“Level ONE9 is an incredible corporate offering for organizations looking to treat their staff or clients to a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Mr. Leroy remarked.

“It’s also an ideal package for touring musicians, actors, and sports teams that need many rooms along with extra space to unwind and enjoy their stay.”

Additionally, the hotel is conveniently located directly across from the MCG, Australia’s largest stadium.

Inside the Penthouse

Stepping into the penthouse, it's easy to forget you’re in a hotel.

Upon entering the top floor, you’ll find an entryway leading to a king bedroom, complete with a work desk, a walk-in robe, and a luxurious marble bathroom. Notably, the toilet and the freestanding spa bathtub offer stunning views overlooking the MCG.

However, if you turn left at the entryway, you’ll discover a door leading to a staircase that descends to the lower level.

Here, guests will find a spacious living and dining area, a study, a concealed kitchen, and a second bathroom.

The windows on both levels, particularly those that overlook the city skyline and Fitzroy Gardens to the right, resemble stunning pieces of art hanging on the wall.

Architects DKO intentionally designed these specially crafted windows with metal shrouds that mimic frames. The breathtaking views are such a standout feature that the large flat-screen TV in the bedroom is designed to rise from a cabinet, ensuring it is only visible when you choose to watch it.

Guests can access the hotel’s gym, outdoor pool, and executive lounge, where pre-dinner canapés and drinks are served from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Attire is always smart casual, with sportswear, swimwear, thongs, or robes not permitted in the lounge.

A Taste of Victoria

For those travelling to Melbourne from interstate or overseas, the Pullman Melbourne on the Park offers an authentic taste of Victoria.

In addition to breathtaking city views, the hotel’s restaurant, The Cliveden, prides itself on using local produce sourced from renowned suppliers such as Meredith Dairy, Green Eggs, La Madre Bakery, and Andrew’s Choice Sausage.

At the buffet breakfast, designed like a market with various themed food stations, guests can enjoy fresh honey dripping straight from the honeycomb provided by Beechworth Honey.

Back in the penthouse, the natural soaps, lotions, shampoos, conditioners, and bath soaks are sourced from Hunter Lab, a Melbourne-based company.

For those seeking longer stays or additional comfort, there are also excellent options for Melbourne furnished apartments. These fully equipped accommodations offer a home-like environment, perfect for enjoying the city's vibrant culture while providing all the amenities needed for a comfortable visit.
