Lower the Bar
Concert or Performance
Lower the Bar
Lower the Bar is a hilarious look at the effects of isolation in the time of the global ‘pando’. At a time when we’ve all been a little more disconnected than usual, Sarah and Kyle will turn your iso shame into an hour long lol-fest. Take a night off from tending to your scobys, and put on your best Birkenstocks, because this is the show for you. Lower the Bar peers into what we hold dear and what we let slip down the cracks of our sofa without bothering to vacuum for a month... or two… or four. This show tackles dating, self-image, family, ambition and work ethic during the time of COVID-19. As individuals and as a society, we have had to learn to pivot and reframe our standards and expectations. Passover Seder over FaceTime, Pilates classes over zoom, sex over Skype. Sarah and Kyle wrestle with the difficult, heartbreaking, frustrating and often hilarious realities of the fractured existence we are currently living through and the blind nature of stumbling through it without an end date in sight. Fresh from sold out Darwin Festival 2020 shows, Sarah and Kyle bring their original brand of sketch comedy for the millennial experience. Content warning Contains some coarse language and adult themes. Supported by Arts NT and City of Darwin.

This isn’t just any beach - it’s Magic Beach, where everything you can imagine becomes real. But this year is different. As the eldest child begins to grow up, does she have to leave the magic behind? Alison Lester AM’s classic book comes to life on stage in a wonderful world of text, song, light, shadow and movement for children aged 3-8 and their adults. From the team behind The Gruffalo and The 13-, 26-, 52-, 78- and 91-Storey Treehouses, this new Australian adaptation from multi-award winning playwright Finegan Kruckemeyer is a celebration of the power of the imagination and the differences that make every child special.

SLIDE Youth Dance Theatre - In A Land Far, Far…Today and Fat Sam's Gang
In this final piece of work for 2020, SLIDE Youth Dance Theatre's Dancers Co-Op and Company Two deliver a double bill of new adventures In A Land Far, Far…Today and Fat Sam's Gang. In A Land Far, Far…Today, 17 people go missing and a reward is offered…sometimes you find what you're looking for in the unlikeliest of places. Hilaria Sharp sits alone with her trolley of random paraphernalia, as a parade of everyday strangers and fairweather friends come in and out of Bubbles' Laundrette, their domestic and social routines as predictable as clockwork. From the 'Influencer' to the 'Most Organised Teacher on Earth', everyone who enters is a known quantity. Or are they? And when things go awry, who can they really rely on? United only by their crazy friendship, Fat Sam's Gang is a motley crew of misfits. They have nowhere to go, and what's more - they are up to no good. In an alleyway fashioned into a home, a gang of street urchins live rough but think big. The kooky chaos of their everyday lives is taken to a whole new level when they find themselves having to contend with a mysterious diamond necklace. Not to mention, the hilariously humourless Superintendent Longbottom. Enter into SLIDE's new worlds. Come out braver, bolder, and sparkling clean!

An Evening with Wendy Matthews
Concert or Performance
An Evening with Wendy Matthews
Acclaimed Australian entertainer and ARIA-Award winning singer Wendy Matthews performs live on The Playhouse stage for one night only. Her music is an unhurried journey of clean melodies, infectious energy and simple grace. In an age where uber-production techniques are thought to be hip and cynicism an attribute, Wendy has proven that commitment to beauty is still very relevant. Born in Montreal Canada, Wendy joined her first band and left home as a teenager, busking her way across the USA to Los Angeles where she met Glenn Shorrock who invited her to tour with him in Australia in 1982. From there, Wendy performed backing vocals for The Models and became a semi-permanent member of the band, as well as singing on albums by iconic Australian artists Jimmy Barnes, Tim Finn, Richard Clapton and Icehouse. After touring with Absent Friends, Wendy recorded her solo debut. The album Émigré went Double Platinum and spawned the hits Token Angels, Let’s Kiss and Woman’s Gotta Have It and earned Wendy the Best Female Artist and Best Debut Single (for Token Angels) at the 1990 ARIA Awards. Wendy was also voted Best Female Singer in the 1990 Rolling Stone Reader’s Poll. Join Wendy as she presents her hit songs The Day You Went Away, Let’s Kiss, I Don’t Want To Be With Nobody But You and other special songs.
