Joadja is the site of a Kerosene Shale Mining Town that operated from 1878 to 1911. Over 1300 people, men ,women and children (mainly brought out from Scotland) lived in the valley. After over 100 years of neglect, the valley is slowly being brought back to life with considerable restoration work, a new Whisky and Gin Distillery and fully guided tours.
