Kinnairds Wetlands is located north of the Broken Creek, near Numurkah, about 20 minutes north of Shepparton and 2.5 hours north of Melbourne. Covering an area of nearly 100 hectares of natural and constructed wetland. Kinnairds Wetlands is part of a scheme designed to naturally enhance water quality through the Muckatah Depression. Just after the rains, birdlife abounds at Kinnairds Wetlands. Three constructed trails suitable for walking and cycling, boardwalks, bird hides and picnic areas give you the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful diversity of wetlands, woodlands and wildlife. The Red Gum Walk Loop Track - 3.5 km 1 hour. Panoramic views around the entire Kinnairds Wetland and passes many large River Red Gums (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) some of which are more than 300 years old. Wetland Walk Loop Trail -2 km 30 minutes. Long views over the water quality wetlands on the eastern side of Kinnairds Wetland including a spillway boardwalk and eastern bird hide. Young Red Gum Trail Link -1 km 15 minutes. Links to the spillway boardwalk travelling through River Red Gum regeneration forest. The forest provides a different habitat type for resident and migratory bird species and wildlife. There is a sheltered area at the entrance to Kinnairds, but there are no toilet facilities. Pick up a map and birds list from the Visitor Information Point in 99 Melville Street, Numurkah.
