This Aboriginal exhibition represents a wide range of Maruku artworks. For over 30 years, Maruku has been ' our place to share our stories with you - the stories of our culture and of our country.' Approximately 900 Anangu artists belonging to over 20 remote communities across the Central and Western Deserts, make up the collective that is Maruku. The works have one thing in common, they are inspired by the artists homeland (Ngura) and tell the stories of the creation which makes up Anangu’s history and the specific history (Tjukurpa) of the creating artist. The exhibition features paintings by Rene Kulitja, known for painting the Qantas plane, sister-in-law Selina Kulitja, both directors of Maruku and daughter Francine Kulitja - Maruku’s emerging artist. Maruku has a focus on carving and this exhibition shows the very contemporary work of Errol Evans and Tanya Singer and the unique snakes of David Cooley, son of the well-accomplished carver Billy Cooley. The show features bowls from David’s mother Lulu Cooley, well-known for her outstanding tali (sand dune) designs. The opening speakers will be Tanya Singer and Errol Evans.
