Container - the box that changed the world
Apr 14, 2020 09:30 - 17:00
Discover how the humble shipping container has revolutionised the way we live!
This free outdoor exhibition will lift the lid on the history and impact of containerisation—visitors can literally ‘step inside the box’ to learn about shipping, ports, cargo, the impact of containerisation on the ocean, the origins of everyday objects and even container architecture.
Container is housed in six colourful 20-foot shipping containers peppered along the port, from outside WA Maritime Museum trailing down to E-Shed Markets.
Developed by the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney, Container arrives at Fremantle Port thanks to an innovative partnership between WA Maritime Museum, Fremantle Ports and Freight and Logistics Council WA.
In today’s global world you may drink coffee from Brazil or a smoothie containing frozen fruit from China. You could be wearing clothes made in India, watching a television made in Japan while sitting on a sofa containing wood from Argentina on a floor manufactured in Sweden. All of this has been made possible by a rectangular steel box – the shipping container.
Container has been embraced by the shipping industry with many key organisations coming on board to provide essential support to tell this important story.
Due to current advice on public gatherings, please contact the host of this event to confirm it is proceeding as planned.
