Absolute Beethoven
Concert or Performance
Absolute Beethoven
Of all Beethoven’s symphonies, his seventh is the most thrilling. More than 200 years since its premiere, its driving momentum pulses with red-blooded vitality. In the hands of conductor Ludovic Morlot, Beethoven’s seventh will lift you up from your seat as it climaxes with a finale of wild abandon and unrestrained joy. Beethoven’s powerful overture sets the scene for Absolute Jest, John Adams’ witty and playful take on the ecstatic energy of Beethoven’s music, performed here with the Australian String Quartet.

Concert or Performance
Cho-Liang Lin & Jon Kimura Parker
A meeting of true musical minds, Cho-Liang Lin and Jon Kimura Parker make a stellar duo, radiating what’s been described as joyful rapport - they love playing together and so we love to hear them. Spectacular virtuosi, they have outstanding careers as soloists, based in North America. But there’s more – alongside the technical wizardry, each is a busy teacher, mentor to emerging artists and artistic director of festivals and competitions and they’ve enlarged the repertoire with numerous commissions. Chamber music is vitally important to them, not least in this recital partnership of more than a decade.

Animal Farm
Concert or Performance
Animal Farm
Manor Farm is in a state of rebellion as a gang of pigs unite to overthrow their cruel human oppressor. Written in the 1940's by George Orwell as a response to the rise of authoritarian governments, Animal Farm is a timeless examination of extremist rule. This new adaptation continues to caution with the universal message that power can corrupt – and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Adapted by political powerhouse Van Badham (Banging Denmark, Q&A, The Drum and writer at The Guardian), this high-octane three-hander features a cast of stellar comedians, improvisers and storytellers. They bring to life a farmyard of characters including the hardworking Boxer and power hungry Napoleon. This is a biting political satire that will make you grunt.
