Keeping Safe Abroad: How to Choose the Best Travellers Insurance Policy

With insurance policies available both online and via physical providers, it can be a confusing time when choosing the best one for your needs. There’s a lot to think about, and often travelers aren’t always sure about what coverage is enough to suffice for their trip away. Luckily, we’ve jotted down a few tips to help get you started.

What type do you need?

If you’re a student heading across the globe for more than a year, different insurance will apply than to that of a family touring Europe for a couple of weeks. You’ll need a package that offers a lot more, including benefits that allow you to cancel and/or delay cover.

Where are you travelling to?

There are both medical and legal costs associated with medical services, no matter where you are in the world. Some, however, differ significantly from another so it’s important you’re aware of the fees you could be facing.

How old are you?

The elderly need often pay more because of their health risks and issues. Younger people are likely to pay less, but this can depend on your provider. Make sure you research who offers the most competitive quote for your age.

What do you plan on doing during your trip?

If you’re going to be taking valuable belongings away with you (e.g. a camera or laptop), make sure your policy covers them. Additionally, think about whether you’ll be participating in risky activities such as bungy-jumping – are you going to be covered if an accident occurs?

The success of your trip away can ultimately come down to just how much effort you’ve chosen to place into your preparation. Using the above tips as a guideline towards your insurance research will help you make a more informed decision on which policy to take out.
